Doug: Harolds idea is good. Many years ago I had a crawler(not IHC) which had a clear plastic tube mounted close to the outside of the diesel fuel tank with an access tube into the tank on top and bottom. This acted as a fuel gauge. It worked great as I never ran the injector pump dry. The old Piper cubs had a cork at the bottom end of a wire rod. This wire rod was mounted down through the gas cap. When the rod was about all the way down into the cap..you were outta gas.
