Don't shift it under load. Always adjust your dump valve after you have adjusted clutch pedal free play. When I shift mine I usually put it in direct or under and just leave it there.

Keep things adjusted and don't abuse it and you will be fine! Some people can go through one a year and some people don't have any trouble. The question is which one do you want to be?
