Okay, I've been following all the 6V versus 12V threads, read the conversion articles, studied Bob M's diagrams. There seems to be a consensus that changing the 6V regulator on a 6V generator to a 12V regulator and installing a 12 volt battery will make a 12V system. Fine and dandy. I like that, cheap and easy (so far). The one question I haven't been able to answer concerns the amount of "power" (expressed in watts) available. My understanding is that Watts equal Voltage times Amperage, or P=E*I. When the generator is tricked into 12V operations does the amperage stay the same? That is, my generator puts out 10 amps at 6 volts (cause that's easy to multiply). Therefore I'm getting 60 watts. 60 watts=6 volts times 10 amps, so if the amperage stays at 10 amps I would have 120 watts when the generator operates at 12 volts. Or am I working the wrong side of the equation? If wattage stays the same, then I would have only 5 amps. I want to go to 12 volts so I can hang some lights on the M, those 6 volt dudes just don't get the job done. And by "tricking" the generator I don't have any rewiring (except for new lights), I have the magneto, so I don't have to worry about a resistor, or a DPDT switch. The question is (after all of that) will I be getting 120 watts as in my example, or still getting 60 watss and reduced amps?

Tractor Traction - by Chris Pratt. Our first bout with traction problems came when cultivatin with our Massey-Harris Pony. Up till then, this tractor had been running a corn grinder and pulling a trailer. It had new unfilled rear tires and no wheel weights. The garden was already sprouting when we hooked up the mid-mount shovel cultivators to the Pony. The seed bed was soft enough that the rear end would spin and slowly work its way to the downhill side of the gardens slight incline. From this, we learned our lesson sinc
