RC - I ran into a similar situation when I rebuilt the steering on my SH last spring. I found there was wear on the upper end of the pivot shaft so there was some "east-west" play at the upper end of the pivot shaft after the new bushing was installed. That translated into slop between the worm and the (slightly worn) sector gear and thus play in the steering mechanism. The solution: When I installed the new upper bushing, I shimmed between the LEFT side of the bushing bore and the bearing shell. This removes the slop and also moves the sector gear CLOSER to the worm - taking all the play our of the gear set. Figuring out what size shim to use was a trial and error exercise. Seems to me it was 0.010" x 1/2" wide and bent in a radius to match the bushing OD. The Super H now steers like new. Incidentally it also had an OEM wedge shim in place when I took it apart.
