I live in Pennsylvania and farmall tractors are my favorite kind of tractor. My father read this Post. He told me that my grandfather had a 1944 Farmall M (He also had Super M-TA, H, Cub, and 140). The M had a front scoop (about four feet wide). There was a hill that is pretty steep and he wanted to put a corn barn at that location. In 1958, he dug about a run of 50 feet and a rise of about 20 feet (there were a lot of stones and it was regular dirt). My dad said that he did all of the work by using the M. When i go over to my Uncle's farm (used to be my grandfather's farm), it amazes me how my grandfather did the work with the M. So, I would say that it would work out well for the Pond Man. My dad said that it is not necessary to use the plow because the scoop will pick up one feet deep at at time. Then keep digging until the desired depth. Try to dig in a pattern from left to right and straight. Hopefully the tractor will have its stamina to not break down. Have faith in Farmall and best luck to the Pond Man!
