H HELP QUICK!

I'm replacing the brake bands on my '50 H. Just pulled the left side off to find it full of oil. Pulled the drum off next. Should there be a seal between the drum and the bearings? Or do I just need to tighten down on the drum? I don't want to saturate my new brake bands, and I've got to get it straight before nightfall! (Hopefully...) Thanks- Krey
