Exhaust popping W-9 Question

My W-9 has some popping in the exhaust that seems to be nagging at me lately. Probably just because I haven�t done much work on old tractors this winter and I�m looking for an excuse to think about them.

I restored it last winter and then noticed the popping in the exhaust last summer. Prior to restoration, I thought that I had adequately checked the engine since it ran good (don�t remember the popping), checked compression (all cylinders between 99 and 105 psi), and did an internal inspection by removing all engine pans and covers and cleaning thoroughly inside. All lifters and pushrods were removed and valves adjusted properly with engine good and warm. I then proceeded to do a thorough cosmetic restoration. I then noticed the exhaust popping that sounds like an occasional engine miss.

- Does not pop until after running about 30 seconds.
- Points are set properly and are new along with all other ignition components.
- Dynoed it at a show last year - 53 pto hp and no popping symptoms under the load.
- Does not seem to pop when opening the throttle while driving.
- A very faint blue orange flame can be seen while driving at night.
- No muffler, just a 18� straight pipe (sounds awesome)

My question is - could this be an exhaust valve that does not seal well? Could it be the straight pipe? I have been told everything from �this is normal for an IH� to �governors can cause it to act like this� to �burned exhaust valve�.

What do you guys think?
