I have an SMTA. Last summer while baling the PTO suddenly quit, no noise or anything. Turned out it was the seasonal disconnect coupling. Apparently it is not uncommon for those to go bad when they get worn a bit. I am going to replace it with a solid coupler but have to split it to do it. I have been told also to let pto run when not using it. Apparently otherwise the apparatus in the rear really spins when it it off.
