These engines are known for their oil pumps to start leaking. There is an o-ring in the pump and on the oil cooler elbow. They wear a groove in the casting in time. I would say that's probably wear he is losing some oil. Easy fix. Just braze another flange on the tube on both ends. Then add another 2 o-rings.

I would offer him $3000 for it and see what happens. 806's run along time. Can't hardly go wrong with them. I believe a sleeve & piston set runs about $1100 or so. Even at that it's still a pretty cheap workhorse.

Are they tough on tractors in south Alabam?
