What you said makes sense. My problem was not that the 6 volt would not crank the tractor, because it would. My problem was more that the battery did not seem to hold up as long as I would have liked. The tractor dealer said that the 6 volt was simply a design flaw from the beginning. My tractor a Farmall 140 needed more than a 6 volt battery from the very beginning. He said that the partucular 8 volt battery that I bought was specifically manufactured to replace the 6 volt battery that came with my tractor. He said the 8 volt should and was designed to "hold up" longer. So, it was never a cranking issue for me, but rather an endurance issue. I've got the battery now, so I'm destined to give it a try. However, if it doesn't work out you folks will be the first to hear about it. Well...actually the tractor dealer will be the first to hear! Thanks for your response and all the others I received.
