That tractor was a gear drive, the 5 speed shift was on the right, the ta lever was on the left. The hydros had a 2 speed range shift on the right and the hydro shift was on the left. We demoed a 656 hydro diesel in 68 and it was not as powerful as the gear drive gas, about 1 mph slower with the same load. Know of one old 656 D hydro that must have 10000 hours on it, was run hard on thousands of acres as a planting and drilling tractor.
