"The steering gear is of the worm and gear type mounted on rear frame (transmission case) cover. The unit is non-adjustable, except that excessive backlash between worm and worm wheel can be corrected by removing the worm wheel and relocating same on splines of worm wheel shaft."

This is right out (Page 17) of the I&T shop service manual IH 8.
