Take a look at your engine block below the #1 spark plug. There should be a machined pad there with the serial number of the engine stamped in it. Those are usually close to the chassis serial number, sometimes exact. Casting codes will also get you within a year of production. On Farmall they read something like 10 17 L Here's the breakdown of the letters: H- 1938 I- 39 J- 40 K- 41 L- 42 and on down the line. System started in 1931 with the letter A. In 1951 U and W were used, so 52 would be X. System reset with A in 1955. V was not used. My 42 H has 101816 for both numbers. Steven
