Tom, it will depend on how you're set up, 6-volt or 12. A 6-volt should have the positive running to ground, the neg to the starter. 12 will be the just the opposite, as you found it. Who knows what you got for a battery. I just bought back my great-grandfather's BN, and the fellow who had it hooked up an old 6-volt just backwards for the sake of delivery. A 6-volt SuperC I bought last year had a 12 volt battery hooked up with positive ground. Things to look at to figure out which you should have. Mag or coil ignition won't really tell you much, though the mag *might* suggest that it has been left as the original 6. An alternator would indicate that it has been converted to 12. A generator would strongly suggest 6. Might also check for a part number on the regulator to see whether it is 6 or 12. Scotty.
