If it has the generator on it, odds are it's a 6v system; if it has an automotive-type alternator, then it is a 12v system. As for cranking it over, many people convert 6v systems to 12v without making changes to the starter - so if the starter is functional, it will crank over with either battery. FREE is GOOD!!
