I concur with Cliff on most of what he said about the PPG Omni line. I used the sanding surfacer on the M. It took 10 hours to sand it out, and I just did the sheetmetal. I used 220 for this operation, then reprimed before doing the base coat. For a sealer, use Epoxy Primer and mix up to 10% reducer in your mix. It goes on much nicer with the reducer anyway.

What I do different, is I use 2 stage system instead of the single stage. I have done both and like the two stage better because it's easier to touch up any light areas of red. You don't have to give the whole tractor a wet coat just to touch up one area. Apply three coats of clear over the base coat, any sags can be worked out carefully with a razor blade, and color sand with 1000 grit paper, and buff out with "Klean Kut" and the wool pad, then go to a velcro sponge pad and finish with "Perfect-it", your finish will look like glass, and not a flaw in it.

I didn't use the sanding surfacer on my Massey Harris I restored, and it still turned out very nicely.

I went over to the Community College for a night course in "Auto Painting Techniques" I learned enough to do the job, but also learned how extensive auto painting trade really is.

You can email also if you have any questions. As Cliff mentioned, the PPG # for the red is 71310

Today's Featured Article - Show Coverage: Godfrey, Illinois Country Days - by Cindy Ladage. Except for last fourth of July's Old Gold show in Springfield, Illinois, I don't remember when it was so hot. Nevertheless, the heat didn't keep vendors and visitors alike from enjoying the third annual Country Day's Event. Jane Elliott said the event was originally a one man show. "Barry Seiler, owner of Country Town Farm Supply store used to invite people up to the Johne Deere store. He would give hats and a free meal for everyone that brings a tractor." Elliott said while this ... [Read Article]
