Tom H has a good point. You have got me just about stumped. When I get stumped, I start wondering about the quality of the input, and it just doesn't add up. I'm not attempting to insult you cause I know you have a bonified problem, but gas squirted in all four, and not a single pop? - now I got to go back to ignition. And, I don't have any experience with mags. But I do know this,--what Tom is saying is that you may have the ignition at TDC of the exhaust stroke, which is one complete revolution, or 360 degrees out of timing. Remember, not every time the number one cylinder is at TDC, does it fire. It is a 4-stroke engine, and every time the engine turns one revolution, the distributor/mag turns 1/2 turn and fires 2 cylinders. The other 2 fire on the next revolution. Start with TDC on number one at the compression stroke, and begin thinking through the 4-stroke sequence. It's fire #1 then -down, fire next piston-up and fire next piston-down and fire last piston-then up on compression stroke and fire #1 again. During these four strokes, the engine makes 2 revolutions and each piston fires once, and the mag rotates one full turn. Now, identify when #1 is at the top of the compression stroke (put your finger over the spark plug hole and feel for compression) - when you have it, make sure the mag rotor is pointing to the number #1 cylinder plug wire and try again. It's gonna get awful if that doesn't do it. RKS

Today's Featured Article - Gatherin of the Orange - by Rick Nikolich. In July of 1998 I was talking to fellow Allis Chalmers collector Mike Schilling about the annual "Gathering of The Orange" AC show coming up in August of 1999. He got this wild idea that we should get a convoy of AC tractors and drive them from Charlotte, Michigan 105 miles to LaGrange, Indiana. ... [Read Article]
