The extra gears are identical to one of the gears on the machine. Can't see how the knife could clamp to the grinder. The only clamp I see mounts the machine to a stationary object. Yes, a steel wheel would be perfect. The grinding wheel is branded by Bay State Abrasives, a division of Dresser. It is carborundum and has a max rpm of 4140. Part # is 893542. The diameter of the stone is too great to fit the throat surrounding the arbor. The bore is bigger as well. I remember seeing similar stones at the hardware store and the IH dealer when I was a boy in the '50s.
