We use the swather guards on our mowers (no ledger plates) along with the knives (sections) that are serrated on the bottom (under-serrated). If you go with over-serrated sections you cannot sharpen them, while the under-serrated can be sharpened several times before they are worn out. We usually get two or three years out of the swather guards, much more convenient than changing ledger plates.
