Should i start md on diesel?

do you think i should try to start the md on diesel? and as far as narrowing down whats wrong instead of pulling off the diesel pump cover would i just br able to check the pressure gauge on the pump? or wont the pressure come up enough to see when using the startrer? Well i will wait and see what you guys think. if you think i should try to get it started on diesel with the help of a little eather? or should i just rip in to her and see whats up? thanx for all the tips guys im gonna get a engine servise manuel that should be all i need right? or are there some better manuls i can buy?
