I knows what you mean. My mowers have a pipe with two 90deg bends so they will clear the limbs and noise and also the fumes. Quick fix would be to replace the pipe coming out of the manifold get a nipple with threads on both ends then using a short nipple and two 90s and another one long enough to fasten the muffler to the point it down will be quiet no fumes and you will like it. Use 1 1/2 pipe easy to get at any big box LOWES,HOME DEPO or other store. Dealer has mufflers with a bbaffle that will make it super quiet.
