You push the copper tubing into the compression fitting as far as it will go. You should be able to start the compression nut by hand after installing the ferrule on the tubing. You should be able to tighten the nut by hand for several turns before using a wrench. This will keep you from cross-threading. Probably a 3/4 turn with a wrench is enough. If it seeps gas, snug it a little more. Hal
