I just put new copper line on my SMTA and the ferral (sp) broke off very easy. It actually broke off by hand on the strainer end. That worked out to not be the greatest, but it still doesnt leak. As for how far the line went in my IH dealer (Otter's in Burlington, WI) said BE SURE YOU STICK IT AS FAR IN THERE AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN AND HOLD IT IN THERE AS YOU TIGHTEN. If I remember mine went in a ways...1/4" and then I wiggled it around and it went in another 1/8"...Those are total guesses probably on the long side... Mine did lead around the fitting on the high side, but then I tighetened it up a little bit more and it dried right up. Good luck! Scott
