F-14 cooling questions

I decided it was time to have the F-14 I restored a few years ago start earning its keep. I�m going to use it for light duty chores but try to still keep it looking good for the annual parade. I spent yesterday towing around a 10� drop lime spreader. Even after driving it for a couple hours the temp gauge never got up anywhere near the normal range. I don�t have much experience with these thermosyphon systems. Top of the radiator was good and warm but the bottom was pretty cool. Gauge sending unit is in the lower elbow from the radiator and that was still cool as well. Tractor ran well and no sign of overheating or anything. No shutters on the radiator and it was about 50 degrees and misty rain at the time. Radiator was full of antifreeze and you could still touch the casting between the head and radiator but wouldn�t want to hold onto it for more than a few seconds. Does this sound normal? Do I have the wrong gauge? Am I just not working it hard enough even after 2 hours of running? Opinions appreciated.
