There was one time I was hired do disc 40 A. of bean stubble in the spring. Leaving the wings up(this disc was a 21' with the wings down. It was either a 470 0r 480 and was usually pulled as a 21' with a 560D and a WD45 in a tandom hitch.) and wheels up I was in high 3rd. A friend of mine pulled a 17.5' disc with a 560D and was in high 2nd. Our experence was you did not kill weeds and break clods unless you could lift and through dirt and this took high 3rd. Again this was spring tillage ahead of the planter. Alan: How hard is your ground in ks? Our farm was in central Il. and was heavy black ground. We could 4-14" #16 pull plow 7-8" deep with the 560in high sometimes low 2nd. Armand
