They are exellent tractors, and the MFWD version is extremely rare. Hang onto that one. The transmission is identical to the 2wd version, just has a transfer case bolted to the left side. Main problem with most MFWD tractors that age is that it takes an acre to turn them around. Make sure your front hubs and front diff are full of oil and don't leak. The engine is a D-358, built at IH's factory in Germany. They will last over 10,000 hours if they have been maintained. The only weakness is the packings that seal the bottom of the cylinder sleeves to the block. They tend to rot out if the coolant is not changed on a regular basis, or will leak if the engine gets overheated. Many perfect running German diesels have been overhauled for this reason. Leave the tractor sit overnight, then just crack the oil pan drain plug loose. If there's antifreeze in the oil, it will have settled to the bottom and will come out before oil will.
