The spring fits over a 2" long pipe that is part of the "collar" on the control arm. On the side of the collar is a bolt that fits into the hole on the lift arm of the rocker arms. One end of the spring rests against the collar and the other end rests against a washer that is welded onto the lift arm. This only gives 3/4 of an inch of shock/compression to the spring. This is why you see a lot of the lift arms bent or replaced, there just isnt much spring to absorb the shock and the arms end up bent out of shape.
