You do have to split the tractor. I use an engine hoist and some concrete blocks stacked up with a block of wood on top of those. The easiest way is to disconnect the air intake to the carb and the fuel line. Then take the oil pressure gauage and water temp gauges out. Then you can split the tractor by blocking it up under the clutch housing, make sure you take the clutch out. Use the engine stand towards the rear end of the motor, take the motor and front end out in one piece. I did this by myself in one day. My front end is a single wheel tricycle si I had to balance it out once it was apart, that was a little tricky.
