Mag vs distributor question

I've seen a number of guys on this forum state they would rather have a mag than a distributor. Both my 43 H and M have distributors and almost every older tractor I see either has a distributor or the coil on the mag is bad and it has an external coil making it work like a distributor. If a mag has a hotter spark why are some many mags replaced with distributors when the coils went bad.
