Tedd - I too have been cutting/burning firewood in western NY for 25+ years. Same as you also I burn primarily oak, ash and maple.

However I’ve burned a lot of fruitwood too – mostly cherry and apple – cut green from my inlaw’s orchard. My experience is once split/stacked, fruitwoods season at the same rate as other firewoods. Key is to keep the wood off the ground - fruitwoods seem to rot more quickly when left in contact with soil. Also keep a tarp or other covering over the piled wood so the wood stays dry.

I think you’ll find cherry is especially nice wood to burn in a stove. It burns clean, it burns down to a nice bed of coals, and it has a pleasing aroma. Go for it!!
