First off a repair manual like the I-T manaul IH-8 is a good place to start. Also since you have no idea when it last ran a good thing to do with it is to fill the cylinders with tranny fluid. Doing that helps unstick stick rings and also cleans rust out of the cylinders and prelubes them also
