The info below is good, I'll add that if you are getting white Diesel fumes out of the exhaust when switching over, it is more likely the compression release valves or valve train. If no smoke other than the gasoline residual, It is likely a stuck plunger in the injector pump. Cleaning it up by taking it apart is easy if you are not at all forceful, use lighert fluid to loosen varnished up old diesel, and stay very clean. A book is pretty much a necessity if you are new at diesel pumps. I think there are Blue Ribbon service manuals on the pumps for your tractor. JimN
