most of the time it's the "flipper thingy". Part of the switch over linkage, in behind the Carb and manifold, it closes the valves to the upper chambers. If it doesn't close the valves it wont run on diesel. To check you can pull the spark plugs, put lever in "Diesel" mode and crank it over. If it blows air out the plug holes, the valves are still open. Sometimes you can just tap on the linkage to get them to close.
