The rears are steel cut-offs. Late 42 probably mean shortage of rubber for the war effort - I think? So this one originally came on rear steel. Front wheels are the optional ones that allow different tread width depending on which side of the wheel you bolt the rim and which way you turn the rim. I have mine set as narrow as possible, here is a picture of them set as wide as possible:
