There is a pin that holds the shift lever in place that can be driven out to remove the shift lever. The you can look down in and see the tops of the shifter rails. There are three of them, 1st and reverse, 2nd and third and 4th and 5th. I'm not sure how much you can see this way, as I've never done it. But you sould be able to see enough to line the slots in the rails up so all gears are in neutral. and then put the shift lever back in. If you can't engage 4th and 5th with the shifter lever out (using a screw driver or something similar to move the rails, then something is wrong with the fork on the shifter rail that engages the gear slot of the 4th/5th sliding gear. It's not in the slot or bent or something like that. This is not a good situation, as if the sliding gear can move on it's own, it could engage while you are underway, in which case things are going to lock up and something could break or worse you could be thrown off the tractor from the jolt you are going to experience. If there is a problem with the shifter rails, the belt pulley gear will have to come off and you can see more. You may have to remove or at least lift up the transmission cover to fix this. That's a pretty big job, as all the stuff attached to the top of the cover has to be removed. The cover is very heavy and will require several people to lift it if you remove by hand. Better to have some kind of a shop crane.
