Use a soap solution around the injector seals to check for bubbles while the engine is running. A bad leak leak may not make any bubbles but will blow the soap solution from around the injector seal. Valve problems are not that rare on these turbo charged engines, especially exhaust valves. Once the guide gets too much wear, the oil film on the valve stem and guide can no longer seal the exhaust gasses from leaking up the valve stem. Once this happens the guide quickly wears and the valve will no longer seat properly. I have taken engines apart that still ran pretty well but had one or more valve springs that were completely filled with carbon. If you remove the valve cover you can do a quick check by just trying to move the top of the valve stem. The wear will be side to side on the engine, not front to back. If you have any noticeable play in the stem the guide is worn out. Any carbon deposits inside the valve spring area is a sure indicator of too much wear.
