as far as teflon tape goes-- "do not use it on any fitting that has any gas or liquid running through it, that contains hydro-carbons--"
this is from the makers of teflon tape,,the hydro carbon reacts with the teflon tape causing it to become brittle and start flaking off and does so until it causes a leak !!!
