Hi Tom, never worked on a 2400 but have worked on the D179 in a 454 and 495.
Since it starts easily that would eliminate the injection pump timing. I would suspect an injector is leaking.
Is it loosing coolant? These engines are very reliable. My brother's 454 has over 15,000 Hrs on it. Still runs great. JimB
