Farmall 544 hydraulics

I recently bought a Farmall 544 and have noticed noise in the hydraulic pump. The tractor has 2400 hours and seems fairly tight, but it sounds like the pump is getting air. This is more so right after starting, and also if the front end is higher than the rear. It is up to the full mark with new Hy-tran and has a new filter from Case IH. Any ideas why it would be getting air?
