What they told you was correct. The factory only offered letter series tractors with an IH battery ignition unit or an IH magneto. The Delco unit was sold by IH dealers, who were allowed to sell the customer any accessory they pleased regardless of who made it. No letter series tractor left the factory with a delco distributor. Typically, the Delco kit was cheaper because Delco made hundreds of thousands of the things a year. We have an M with the Delco and a W6 with the IH and don't notice any difference between them that I would attribute to the distributor.
