Legend has it that IH switched back to red in 1979 because it was the last year for the "Farmall" Cub. However, I know of one 1977 model that is original factory red, and have seen several others in the 1975-1979 era that claim to be red from the factory with original paint jobs.
Apparently IH was painting a few Cubs red here and there during the later years.
