The eary A's and B's had the serial number plate on the brakeshaft cover. Not a very good location due to the ease of damaging the cover and additional ease of replacing the cover. I don't know when the plate was moved to the seat support since my parts book doesn't even acknowledge that the plate was ever anywhere else, but I have 3 tractors with the plate on the cover(or at least had the plate there, in some cases).
