Switch back to GAS before shutting the engine down. I know that sounds dumb because gas burns hotter than diesel, but LISTEN TO THE REASON: When switched over to gasoline before shutting down, the engine has LESS compression and therefore runs COOLER. Another advantage is it will burn out the residual diesel fuel and make starting easier next time. Be SURE to put the lever back to the diesel position after shutting down though so that the decompression valves can cool properly. This is the shut down procedure in a nut shell as listed in the ORIGINAL owner's manual.
