You've got the idea--and there's one more thing besides "cooling down time". NEVER allow your McCormick(or McCormick-Deering if it's older than about 1949)WD-9 to overheat, 'cause that just is murder on those diesel heads too. Many, many Internationl built early diesel tractors never had any problem with their heads, but being conscientious about their "special needs" was really important.
