Greg - You'll get a variety of opinions on whether to convert or not. I converted my H to 12 volt by having my 6 volt generator rebuilt to 12. I like the extra punch it has for starting. Since you have to rebuild anyway I'd change to 12 volt. You'll need a few things like an ignition ballast resistor to go between your coil and ignition switch. You can replace bulbs with 12 volt bulbs and you'll need a 12 volt battery. You also want to make sure your flywheel ring gear and starter gear are in good shape. If you search the archives there are threads covering almost every aspect of the process including a diagram (BobM did it I think). Wherever you have the generator rebuilt can also guide you through some of it and tell you how to polarize your generator. Its not hard..good luck.
