Years ago we had a new 1965/66 504 gas row crop with 38in rear wheels & narrow front, And we allways used a 3 furrow 14in mounted plow.In clay loam all we ran in at least straight 3rd gear. In easy going whent as high as straight 4th gear, Str. 4th was sometime a little fast for plowing.

Gas is expensive to run on now.But wish we still had that unit. I was a young fellow back then but they allways said the 504 was comparable to a super "M". Only now they had 3pt hitch and live power and live hyd.
