Muratic Acid to Clean Gas Tank

The gas tank on my old M has a lot of gook and rust in he bottom. It has set up for many years and the gas hardened, plus the bottom of the tank is rusty. I have heard that Muratic acid will clean the tank of rust, etc. Has anyone used this method. If so, how much acid to water, etc? How long do I leave it in the tank? I have a couple gallons of muratic acid used for cleaning pools that is 31.45% hydrochloric. Will this work?
