Engine work on the diesel is going to be expensive. Could be just a blown gasket, or could be a cracked head or block. I'd vote for the cracked head. If it does not run very well, could be problems with the injectors or the injector pump. An overhaul of the injector pump will likely run over $1000. The 450 has quite a bit more power than the MD. If the MD is running good, $1800 is probably a fair price. Can't really say about $1250 for the 450 with known problems.
