in 1894 deering introduced a dump rake and mccormick began producing theirs in 1895 (page 183, 150 years of international, 8 pictures of dump rakes also side dellivery rakes, tedders and hay loaders to page 189) dump rakes were probably carried until harvester quit building horse drawn equipment. amish still use them in some parts of the country and still can probably get them new. i remember seeing a litle mennonite boy on a dump rake in northern mo. he was in the field by himself with the team of black horses, going across the field at full tilt, long white straight hair under his broad brim hat, and his legs so short they hardly bent over the edge of the seat. i don't know how he operated that rake with his legs so short, but the rows in the field looked straight. i could imagine the meaness in him the way he pushed those horses, a mennonite dennis the menace. any way the book has a lot of photos of rakes and everything else made by i.h. 400 plus pages.
