Water out the exhaust when motor is started

I saw a message last week about water being puked out the exhaust when started. My W9 does that. The first time was after a rain and I assumed water had gotten into the engine during the rain. The muffler has a top on it, but the counter weight is almost perfectly balanced and I thought it might have opened during the rain. I have kept the muffler covered, but this still happens after a hard rain. Took the hood off to find the exhaust manifold has been welded, but makes no leaking sounds when running. The engine runs good and there is never any other time that water comes out. I'll appreciate comments. Thanks.
